The locally-famous Aardwolf Brewing Company has garnered a sturdy reputation over the past few years. It’s casual, laid back “urban revival” atmosphere, and extensive bottled and draft selection are driving factors.
Founded in 2013 by co-owners Michael Payne and Preben Olsen, this hidden hipster gem has been steadily gaining popularity in Jacksonville. This one of a kind brewery experience has gained a loyal following from local craft beer fans.
Aardwolf Brewing Company Atmosphere
The atmosphere of Aardwolf is everything. It is located inside a renovated ice house from the 1920’s. This building is a leftover relic from the days before refrigerated trains. When ice was greatly needed for cold cargo, trains would pass through the area. Because of this, the building served as one of the larger central business hubs of South Jacksonville in the early to mid 1900’s.
Today, Aardwolf is here, close to downtown on Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville’s San Marco area. This brewery boasts a stunning and hip open brick taproom and several renovated spaces. These spaces are potentially available for rental for parties.
The Aardwolf experience begins with easily accessible private parking, a luxury for very few establishments in the downtown Jacksonville area. The outdoor patio has plenty of seating. They have set up some atmospheric lights around the area to enhance the setting. The outdoor spot is ideal for relaxing with friends outside on a cool evening.
Banquets and Party Spaces
If you are looking to reserve space for a party, Aardwolf has several options available. The Lounge is a casual space, with comfortable couch seating and a wooden coffee table. This makes it the perfect setting for a party. This open brick private room seats parties of up to 25 people. It even has a private service window for extra convenience.
If you have a large party, Aardwolf’s banquet room seats up to 50 at long, family-style tables and bright, open windows. Alternatively, the “Back Half” is a large rental space of both the Lounge and the Banquet Room. These separate spaces for dining and mingling can fit a party of up to 80 people. They’ll even rent out the main Taproom, but only on Mondays. The entire Taproom can fit a party of up to 200 people.
The most important part of any brewery is obviously the beer they create. The Aardwolf crew, known as the Wolfpack, releases a new pilot batch of beer every Wednesday and welcomes you to come try their product. Some of their more popular draft beers are:
- The Weizenwolf Hefeweizen, flavorful and light-bodied
- Styrofoam Pony, a hearty American stout that tastes like everything you’d want in a stout
Other fan favorites are the San Marco Sour and the Notorious F.I.G. Aardwolf also sells their signature bottled beers. These bottles can be taken home or enjoyed right in the Taproom. Their signature barrel-aged San Marco Sour is a popular favorite, as is El Mariachi.
A great option for tasting the best brews that Aardwolf Brewing Company has to offer is to purchase one of their flights. Their flights are quite unique. The bartender will give you a small metal flight and a dry erase marker. You write which beers you want, and they fill them up for you. It’s a pretty cool concept, and allows you to take your time in choosing which beers you’d like to sample.
